Hi! My name is Nicholas Anderson, I'm a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania, and I study Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Engineering Entrepreneurship.
From a young age, I've possessed an obsession with finding answers. In second grade, my sister's monstrous fear of birds prompted me to find and write a research report on the largest one (the albatross). In third grade, I wanted to put down the Lincoln Logs and see if it was possible to build a house out of real wood. So I built a model house out of clay and bark. In fourth grade, I accomplished my first real engineering feat: building the Franklin stove (interior and all) out of cardboard. 10 years later, the mentality lives on, and now I find myself studying what I love.
In a very broad sense, it has always been my goal to push human capabilities forward. From creating a sustainable future to advancing space exploration, from designing cutting-edge prosthetics to utilitizing consumer culture - whatever it may be, I have always looked at the frontier of science as the right place for me.
At Penn, I strive to bring out people's true love for engineering and spark this same desire for solving problems. Through the Penn Engineering Council and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, I foster community, inclusion, and professional development. Through my position as Ambassador of the Mechanical Engineering department, I promote positivity, individual growth, and academic success. I find myself happiest when I know that I have helped peers in these ways.
Aside from these, I am also an associate editor for the Penn Bioethics Journal, on the club soccer team, and a former Aerospace club member.
All in all, I hope that you enjoy learning about me and what I do, please feel free to connect with me using any of the methods displayed in the footer below :)
